Australian Cattle Dogs have captured my heart for life. They are incredibly intelligent, attentive, fun, and loving dogs. However there are a few things that need to be considered prior to adopting one into your home. Due to their high level of intelligence and extremely high activity level, they need a job. A job could be herding animals, pest control, pack animal, obedience, agility, tricks, personal protection, keeping track of family members, or frisbee tournaments, but they need a job. If not given a job they pick up bad habbits. We've lost 2 beds, a couple couches, vehicle seats, treadmill, numerous hoses, plants, socks, and countles other items to bored pooches. So please consider these terms prior to adding to your home.
1. They are VERY active dogs and require 2-3 hours of intense exercise /day.
2. Obedience and Socialization are a MUST! Due to their intense bond with their owners they can become over protective. They also thrive on it.
3. Minimum of a 1/4 acre with a very active home setting. These dogs ARE NOT suited for apartments, condos, or small spaces.
4.They have working behaviors (chasing, nipping, barking, & territorial instincts toward other animals) and need consistent training and firm leadership to keep their noses out of trouble!
